A good large cavalry example with its steel mounts having finely pierced double-shell guard, left one with a thumb ring on the inside. Wooden grip covered with multi-layered steel wire. Mounted with a broad double-edged blade having short fuller to each side. Lower ricasso featuring maker marks on both sides, fullers struck MEFECIT SALINGEN followed by engraved running wolf - an early German weaponry symbol. Lovely rich patina throughout, solid and intact overall on this very combat-efficient weapon made for one of the European countries by famed German arms-makers of Renaissance era.
